Pad Palooza 9:30 am
Pad Palooza @ Gateway Church
Sep 8 @ 9:30 am – 4:00 pm
Volunteers of all ages and skill levels are invited for a day of fun and fellowship Saturday during the annual Pad Palooza. Attendees will form an “assembly line” as they cut and sew reusable cloth feminine pads to support Mission Possible and school girls in Haiti. Volunteers are needed to cut, iron, sew, pin and trace patterns. All supplies including fabric, sewing instructions, irons, ironing boards, extension cords and tables will be provided. Those planning to sew should bring a sewing machine and manual if possible, standard straight-stitch foot, zig-zag foot, overlock foot, even-feed foot, pink thread, seam ripper and scissors. The event is sponsored by Sew Quilt Share, an outreach ministry of Gateway Church. Interested participants are encouraged to register at gatewayepc.org/pad-palooza for the full day (9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.), morning session (9:30 a.m. to noon) or the afternoon session (noon to 4 p.m.). A soup bar lunch will be provided. Sandra Tietje of Sew Quilt Share says last year’s Pad Palooza yielded enough pads for Mission Possible to provide 12 pads each to 524 Haitian girls. She encourages mothers and daughters — or grandmothers and granddaughters — to participate, adding that sewing skills are not a necessity. Nonsewers are encouraged to bring a sharp pair of fabric scissors. Fabric donations of 100 percent cotton flannel will also be accepted, as one yard of flannel will make 10 cloth feminine pads. There is also a need for size 12-14 girls hipster underwear and Ivory bar soap. Those who cannot attend Saturday’s sewing session can find a link to pattern and sewing instructions on Gateway’s website. Drop off completed pads at the Gateway Church office, Mission Possible or the Christian Book and Gift Store in Findlay. Gateway Church is located at 9555 County Road 9.
