Overcoming Adversity: The Elizabeth Smart Story @ Alumni Memorial Union, Multipurpose Room
Oct 13 @ 3:00 pm
Elizabeth Smart, child abduction survivor and an advocate for change related to child abduction and recovery programs, will speak at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, in the University of Findlay’s Alumni Memorial Union in the multipurpose room. Her speech, titled “Overcoming Adversity: The Elizabeth Smart Story,” will be free and open to the public. At age 14, Smart was abducted from her home in Salt Lake City, Utah, and held prisoner for nine months. She chronicled her experiences in The New York Times bestseller “My Story” and founded the Elizabeth Smart Foundation to promote the national AMBER Alert, the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act, and other safety legislation to help prevent abductions. Smart’s public talk will precede her talk at a private fundraiser for the Center for Safe and Healthy Children to be held at UF’s Mazza Museum that evening.
