Mar 13 @ 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm
The University of Findlay’s Mazza Museum is introducing “Apt. 3,” a young professionals group that the museum will host at after-work receptions and networking events. The first gathering is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 28, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the museum, 201 College St. Individuals who bring a donation for the museum’s art room will be admitted free. Ink stamps, Crayola watercolor sets and washable markers, Scotch tape and glue sticks are some of the preferred donations. Subsequent events and receptions will be held about every three months, and will coincide with gallery rotations, according to Kerry Teeple, museum deputy director. Other scheduled receptions will be Dec. 28, March 13 and June 14. Apt. 3 members will be exposed to cultural, literary and artistic experiences, and can enjoy additional social interaction while also supporting the Mazza Museum. Drinks from local brewers and vintners, snacks and a short keynote presentation will be included with each event. Museum organizers hope Apt. 3 will serve as an additional, complementary option for members of Findlay Young Professionals and others between the ages of 18 and 40 who are seeking after-work cultural enrichment. The Apt. 3 name is derived from one of the four original pieces of art that the museum collected. Created by Ezra Jack Keats, the “Apt. 3” illustration was purchased in 1982. The Mazza Museum bills itself as “the most diverse collection of original artwork by children’s book illustrators in the world.” The museum’s goal is to promote literacy and enrich lives through the art of picture books.

7:00 pm Oiler Pride Drag Show Benefit @ University of Findlay Alumni Memorial Union
Oiler Pride Drag Show Benefit @ University of Findlay Alumni Memorial Union
Mar 13 @ 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm
The annual Oiler Pride Drag Show Benefit will be held at the University of Findlay Alumni Memorial Union at 7 p.m. March 13, with doors opening at 6:30. The event is presented by United: The University of Findlay Gay-Straight Alliance. It is free for UF students with valid ID, $1 for students of other schools with valid ID, and $5 for community members. The event is set to bring drag queens and kings to the university and the Findlay community to benefit the Findlay LGBTQ+ Community Council and the University of Findlay LGBT Resource Center, which provides resources such as books, movies and support for LGBT students at the university. Candi, Wantsome? will serve as the event’s Queen of Drag and master of ceremonies for her third time while displaying her trademark sass and wit for the audience. The show has three acts: the first and third are the professional drag entertainers, while the second features students attempting drag or a type of gender performance art. Performers will compete not only for the audience’s affection, but also for the approval of a three-judge panel of Findlay natives, who will bestow the award of the community’s best drag performance. There will also be a photo shoot for those who want to have their picture taken with the queens and kings in front of an official backdrop for Oiler Pride. A new event aspect this year is the new Snapchat filter for everyone in attendance. This filter is geographically based, so participants have to be at the event to use it. United encourages attendees to bring their dollars to give to the performers for donations to the event’s causes. For more information and updates on the event, visit facebook.com/UnitedUF. To request special accommodations, please contact the university directly at 419-488-8313 or 1-800-472-9502, ext. 5536.
