The Rev. Sharon Washington Risher, whose mother, Ethel Lee Lance, was killed in the 2015 shooting at Mother Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina, will speak at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, at the Owens Community College Findlay campus. Two of Risher’s cousins and a childhood friend were also among those who were killed. She will speak in Education Center 111 on the Findlay campus. She will also speak at 12:30 p.m. at the Toledo campus. Risher will share her personal experience losing loved ones and discuss race, racism, hate in America, and finding a path to forgiveness and hope for the future.

The Findlay-Hancock County Public Library will host story time on Tuesdays and Thursdays through April 13 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Children’s Programming Room. Baby Story Time will be held on Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:45 to 10:15 a.m. in the Early Literacy Center for children up to 3 years old. Little Tikes Play Time will follow on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10:15 a.m. to noon in the Children’s Programming Room. The Arlington Branch Library holds regular story times every Thursday at 11:15 a.m. No registration is required for any of the story times. Raise the Bar-Hancock County, an initiative to prepare and grow Hancock County’s labor force, will be discussed at the next meeting of the Findlay Area Human Resources Association on March 14 at Hilton Garden Inn. Registration and lunch will be at 11:30 a.m. and the presentation will start at noon. The program costs $17 for members, $23 for nonmembers and $5 for students and members in transition. The churches of the North Baltimore Area Cooperative Ministry (NBACM) will host weekly “Community Lenten Lunches” on Wednesdays during Lent. Community members are invited to lunch and Lenten devotions from noon to 1 p.m. at a North Baltimore church. The schedule is: Ash Wednesday, Feb. 14, Holy Family Roman Catholic, 115 E. Cherry St.; Feb. 21, Praise Chapel Pentecostal (location of meal: Church of the Good Shepherd, 119 W. Broadway St.); Feb. 28, St. James United Methodist. 201 S. Second St.; March 7, The Bridge Fellowship, 123 E. Broadway St.; March 14, Church of the Good Shepherd; March 21, St. Luke’s Lutheran, 215 N. Second St. There is no cost for the meal, but participants are invited to give an offering for the ministries of NBACM including the “Community Food Pantry.”

Bluffton University’s junior nutrition students will host the 2018 Lunch and Learn series from Feb. 14 to April 18 on the first floor of Berky Hall. The demonstrations are free and open to the public; however, limited space is available for each lunch. Each session includes a 20-30 minute cooking demonstration, nutritional information and a full meal. Lunches will be held from noon to 1 p.m. The 2018 series is sponsored by The Food Store, a whole foods market in downtown Bluffton. The Ritz Theatre will show movies that played an integral role in the building’s history, which was built in 1928. The matinee movie series is dubbed “Close, but No Cigar,” featuring some of the greatest actresses never to win an Academy Award for Best Actress. “Judgment at Nuremberg” (1961) shows Nov. 15; “Auntie Mame” (1958) is Dec. 13; “Captain January” (1936) is Jan. 24; “Morocco” (1930) is Feb. 14; “Sorry, Wrong Number” (1948) is March 14; “Camille” (1936) is April 18; and “Splendor in the Grass” (1961) is May 16.
