Flag City Honor Flight
Oct 2 all-day
The first of two 2018 flights of Flag City Honor Flight, the Findlay-based hub of the National Honor Flight Network, will occur Tuesday. Veterans of World War II, Korea and Vietnam, plus their guardians, will journey to Washington, D.C., to visit the war memorials built in their honor. They’ll also witness the changing of the guard at Arlington National Cemetery. The trip is made possible by donations of individuals, organizations and local businesses. Veterans pay absolutely nothing, while guardians are asked to make a tax-deductible donation. Participants will depart The Cube parking lot via bus at 4:30 a.m. with escort by the Findlay Police Department, Hancock County Sheriff’s Office and American Legion Riders of Great First District of Ohio. The Wood and Lucas County sheriff’s departments will join at their county lines. The group will depart Toledo Express Airport via charter jet at 8 a.m., arriving at Baltimore-Washington International airport at 9:30. The return flight arrives in Toledo at approximately 9:30 p.m., where a welcome home ceremony with family members and mail call follows. The public is welcome to attend. The caravan should arrive back in Findlay at about midnight. This year’s second flight will be held Oct. 2. More information is at http://flagcityhonorflight.org/ .
