The University of Findlay’s 2018 Homecoming and Family Weekend will take place Oct. 5-7. With the theme “Where Your Story Began,” the celebration will also focus on Shafer Library’s 50th anniversary. Events include Shafer Library’s 50th Anniversary Celebration from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5. Tours will show what’s new at the library. Fireworks will be set off at the Davis Street building parking lot at 9:15 p.m. Friday. Registration for the 5K run/walk starts at 7:15 a.m. Saturday at the Alumni Memorial Union. The race starts at 8 a.m. Proceeds will support the UF chapter of the Academy of Student Pharmacists. At 3 p.m., the Oilers will play Hillsdale College at Donnell Stadium. The Homecoming and Family Weekend Worship Service will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday at Winebrenner Theological Seminary. Funday Sunday, held from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at UF’s Mazza Museum, will feature the theme “Where Your Story Begins.” Family activities will include storytelling, art stations, music, refreshments and special guests. Kids will be immersed in a mini college visit that will allow them to experience the different departments on campus and what they have to offer. More than 16 stations will be available for young participants, and the university’s planetarium will be open. SMART Recovery Meeting @ Focus on Friends

Focus on Friends now offers a SMART Recovery (Self-Management and Recovery Training) group led by a trained facilitator. The group meets at 3 p.m. each Friday at 509 W. Trenton Ave., and no registration is needed. SMART Recovery is a nonprofit international organization that provides science-based, self-empowering support groups for abstaining from addiction. The program uses techniques drawn primarily from cognitive behavior therapy and motivational interviewing. The SMART Recovery program is under continuous revision, and changes as scientific knowledge about addiction treatment and recovery evolves. It is reviewed by both practicing addiction treatment professionals, who volunteer as advisers to the organization, and the International Advisory Council, which includes many of the world’s leading addiction scientists. All American Rock House will welcome Donnie Baker, a frequent guest on syndicated radio’s “The Bob & Tom Show.” Special guest Steve Sabo has released six full-length comedy albums and boasts a routine that’s clean, dirty or something in between, depending on the situation. The 21 and over event features a special food and drink menu.
