Fear No Art Lesson: How to Draw a Self Portrait @ Bluffton Public Library

Janette Reineke will teach an art class at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Bluffton Public Library.

“Fear No Art Lesson: How to Draw a Self Portrait” will be inspired by Rembrandt, who is featured in Reineke’s book, “Fear No Art.” The cost is $10, which will be accepted at the door, and books will be available to purchase that evening. Registration is required before Friday.

First Presbyterian Church Nursery School Open House @ First Presbyterian Church

First Presbyterian Church Nursery School will begin enrollment for the 2018-19 school year on Feb. 20.

An informational meeting/open house will be held at 7 p.m. that day in the church fellowship hall for parents who wish to enroll their 3-, 4- and 5-year-olds. The church is located at 2330 S. Main St.

Lunch and Learn @ Berky Hall, Bluffton University

Bluffton University’s junior nutrition students will host the 2018 Lunch and Learn series from Feb. 14 to April 18 on the first floor of Berky Hall. The demonstrations are free and open to the public; however, limited space is available for each lunch.

Each session includes a 20-30 minute cooking demonstration, nutritional information and a full meal. Lunches will be held from noon to 1 p.m. The 2018 series is sponsored by The Food Store, a whole foods market in downtown Bluffton.

Dates and topics include:

  • Feb. 14 — Clarifying the confusion with oils; easy ways to increase fish in your diet
  • Feb. 21 — Soups and flatbreads: quick and healthy supper ideas
  • Feb. 28 — Using new spice and the Instant pot: getting out of the ordinary meal pattern
  • March 14 — Making meals around produce: increase lutein and ellagic acid to fight disease
  • March 21 — Quick supper ideas: clever use of leftovers and wraps
  • March 28 — Easy substitutions to increase fiber and decrease fat and sugar
  • April 4 — Consumer 101: whole grains and introducing sorghum as an alternative grain
  • April 11 — New ideas to make easy vegan and allergy-friendly meals
  • April 18 — New and exciting ideas for on-the-go breakfast and lunch

Basics of Microsoft Excel @ Putnam County District Library -- Ottawa branch

A class on the basics of Microsoft Excel will be held at 6 p.m. Feb. 22 at the Putnam County District Library, Ottawa.

Participants will learn worksheet setups, methods and functions, cell references, formulas and more tips. Hands-on help will be included at this event, and those attending can bring their own laptop or use one of the library’s computers.

American Red Cross CPR Class @ American Red Cross North Central Ohio Chapter

The American Red Cross North Central Ohio Chapter is offering first aid and CPR/AED courses in February.

The sessions teach people how to perform CPR and use an AED, what to do if someone is choking, and how to prevent and respond to other emergencies until advanced medical help arrives. Participants also learn how to control bleeding and how to respond to seizures.

Classes will be offered at 6 p.m. Feb. 15 and 28 at the Hancock County Red Cross office, 125 Fair St. Call 800-RED CROSS or visit redcross.org/take-a-class to register.

Youtheatre Club @ Marathon Center for the Performing Arts

The Arts Partnership is starting a monthly performing arts club through its Youtheatre program.

Students in grades 1-12, regardless of ability or past involvement with Youtheatre, are encouraged to participate in Youtheatre Club, which will meet the second Tuesday of each month beginning Tuesday and ending May 8. Grades 1-5 will meet from 4:30-6:30 p.m. and grades 6-8 and 9-12 will meet from 4-6 p.m.

Cost is $45 per year and meetings are held at the Marathon Center for the Performing Arts. Contact Craig VanRenterghem at education@artspartnership.com or 419-422-4624, ext. 3, to sign up.
