Hardin County Agricultural Tour @ Hardin County, Ohio

Area residents can take a bus tour of several agricultural sites in Hardin County on Aug. 20.

Tickets for the tour, sponsored by Findlay-Hancock County Chamber Agri-Business Committee, are $20 and include lunch. Proceeds benefit the Agri-Business Scholarship Fund.

The tour’s first stop will be Natural Choice Dairy Farm, which has 4,000 dairy cows.

The second stop will be Lean Value Sires, a family operation of livestock breeders established in 1992. Its boar stud operation serves the show pig industry. The tour will include a selection of championship boars.

The third stop on the tour will be Ravenhurst Champagne Cellars, winemakers dedicated to traditional methods of champenoise champagne and hand-crafted wines made from estate-grown vinifera grapes. The owners will share why they picked their particular location in regard to the climate and conditions. Wine tasting will be available for an additional fee.

The final stop on the tour will be the Kurt Family Farm. The farm is 470 acres of corn and soybeans. The family has committed 168 acres to the Blanchard River Demonstration Farms Network, which is designed to showcase new conservation practices to improve Great Lakes water quality.

HHWP Community Action Commission Micro Business Development Program @ Wyandot County HHWP Community Action Commission office

Recruitment is underway to enroll participants in the fall Micro Business Development Program offered by the HHWP Community Action Commission.

The program consists of 11 sessions held from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Thursdays beginning Aug. 23. Sessions continue through Nov. 1 at the Wyandot County HHWP Community Action Commission office, 559 S. Warpole St., Upper Sandusky.

The program is designed for individuals interested in starting their own business, owners of existing businesses, and others who want to learn about business. For the purposes of this program, a small business is defined as having one to five employees — one of which is the owner of the business.

Discussion topics include business success stories, developing a business plan, funding a business, opening and marketing, record keeping, e-commerce, buying a business or franchise, insurance, banking, retirement planning, financial statements, legal forms of ownership, and pricing products and services. There is access to one-on-one counseling after completing the program, and qualified participants will be eligible to apply for a business loan of up to $10,000.

The program fee is based upon household income and costs $25 for income-qualified applicants. The program fee is $100 for nonqualified participants. The first session is free.
