Weekend: A month of music

Community favorites Findlay First Edition and Pantasia, along with Findlay Light Opera Company, The Millstream Singers and The Findlay Academy of Ballet will be featured as part of The Arts Partnership’s Community Month, sponsored by Blanchard Valley Health System. Tickets are available at The Arts Partnership box office, 618 S. Main St., by calling 419-422-4624, or visiting www.artspartnership.com.
Kicking off the series of performances are Findlay High School performers from Findlay First Edition and Pantasia Steelband. Both will perform on Jan. 24 at 7:30 p.m. at Findlay High School’s R.L. Heminger Auditorium. The event serves as a fundraiser for both groups.
Accompanying the group is the instrumental ensemble known as The Boingers. Also accompanying the group is a seven-member crew.
Also taking the spotlight in Community Month is The Findlay Light Opera Company, presenting a reprise of last year’s popular original production of “A Dating Game: the Musical Pursuit of Love” on Friday, Feb. 7 and Saturday, Feb. 8 at First Presbyterian Church, beginning at 8 p.m.
This contemporary song-cycle musical will ingeniously chronicle the past 25 years in the life of the Findlay Light Opera Company. The show will feature selections from Gilbert & Sullivan’s “Patience,” “The Sorcerer” and “Yeoman of the Guard.” Tickets for the performances are $10 and tables of 8 may be reserved by calling The Arts Partnership.
The Millstream Singers, members of the Great Lakes Male Chorus Association, will present a variety of selections on Saturday, Feb. 15 beginning at 7:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church. The chorus began in 1980 with music borrowed from Bowling Green State University and first rehearsed in the choir room at the University of Findlay. The chorus now enjoys an extensive library of music and has an active schedule performing for various civic functions, nursing homes and other local events and has performed with the Lima Symphony Orchestra.
Wrapping up the series is The Chance to Dance Foundation’s “The Pointe of the Evening,” a performance featuring members of The Findlay Academy of Ballet, on Saturday, March 1 at Winebrenner Auditorium. The night will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a silent auction, followed by the performance at 7:30 p.m., both benefiting the Chance to Dance scholarship fund. This evening of choreography features guest professional dancers along with the highest level students from The Findlay Academy of Ballet. Presale tickets for this performance are $12 for adults and $10 for students. All tickets will be $15 at the door the night of the performance.
