BLUFFTON — Concerns were voiced by a couple of residents about the village sidewalk improvement program during Monday night’s council meeting.
The residents who spoke during the meeting wanted to know when appeals would be heard regarding the project.
A total of 92 residents received notices last year to install sidewalks on their properties, while another 97 residents received a notice to repair or replace the sidewalks on their properties. The current deadline to complete the project is Oct. 1 of this year.
Village council said no appeal meeting dates have been set yet, but the sidewalk committee planned to meet at 8 p.m. on Feb. 4 in order to organize meeting dates for appeals.
Council also passed two resolutions involving construction projects in 2014.
One of the resolutions will allow the village administrator to enter into agreements with Terra Inc., J&D Snyder Excavating, Gary Lughibihl Excavating, and Beaverdam Contracting for the installation and excavation of water, sewer and storm pipe manholes, in addition to the installation and excavation of catch basins and laterals.
A resolution was also passed that would allow the village to enter into a contract with the Bluffton Stone Company/Bluffton Paving to acquire aggregate and asphalt material and rental equipment for the 2014 construction season.
Village administrator James Mehaffie said the bids for this year are comparable to last year in terms of cost.
Separately, Mehaffie noted that 75 tons of salt were delivered to the village this past week. Mehaffie said both bins are full again for use on the streets and said the village is in good shape in terms of its supply for the winter. Mehaffie said the village has always been conservative with its use of salt.
Separately, the Certified Public Records training is scheduled to be held at the town hall on Friday. Mehaffie said 22 individuals had signed up for the training as of last Tuesday. A minimum of 35 people need to sign up in order for Bluffton to host the training.
