Weekend: What’s the pointe?

The Chance to Dance Foundation will be hosting its annual Pointe of the Evening Ballet and Auction fundraiser on Saturday, March 1. The event will be held at Winebrenner Theological Seminary, located at 950 N. Main St., Findlay.
The evening will begin with a silent auction at 6:30 p.m. The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. with a reception following. The auction will feature gift baskets, services and other items donated by local businesses and celebrities.
Advanced members of the Findlay Academy of Ballet and professional dancers from the Cleveland, Tiffin and Mansfield areas will present selections ranging from traditional ballet to modern dance. Also included will be a sneak peak of the upcoming “Snow White and the Magic Mirror,” slated for April 25 and 26 at the R.L. Heminger Auditorium at Findlay High School. The production is choreographed by Robert Wesner, Neos artistic director, who brought the “Nutcracker” to Findlay a few years ago. His dance company will also perform during the evening.
Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for seniors and students and are available through The Arts Partnership at www.artspartnership.com or by calling 419-422-4624, or Becky’s School of Dance, home of the Findlay Academy of Ballet, by calling 419-423-7423. Tickets are $15 at the door.
Dance can get expensive. Shoes, costumes and competitions can all add up. The Chance to Dance Foundation believes no dancer should have to deny their talent because they don’t have the money. The money raised goes toward the Chance to Dance Scholarship. Donations to the foundation can be mailed to Judy Reading, instructor at the Academy of Ballet, at 7443 Eagle Drive, Findlay, OH 45840.
