Four write-in candidates file for Damschroder seat

FREMONT — Four people filed as write-in candidates for 88th District state representative by Monday’s deadline, including the wife of the current officeholder.
Rhonda Damschroder, 1014 Birchard Lane, Fremont, is the wife of Rep. Rex Damschroder, who filed to seek re-election, but an error on his petitions removed him from May 6 Republican primary.
If nominated by voters in the May primary, Rhonda Damschroder would serve as a “stand-in” for her husband. She would drop out of the race and Republican Party officials could then place Rex Damschroder’s name on the general election ballot as the party nominee for the office.
Rex Damschroder is prohibited from seeking the position as a write-in.
Also filing were: Richard Geyer, 1909 Robert Ave., Fremont; Bill Young, 312 N. Broadway, Green Springs; and Bill Reineke Jr., 5209 S. Ohio 231, Tiffin.
Young is a Democrat, while Geyer and Reineke are Republicans.
Independent candidates have until May 5 to file for the Nov. 4 election.
