Findlay businessman Kevin Rettig filed Monday as an independent candidate for state representative in the 83rd District.
Monday was the filing deadline for independent candidates to file candidacy petitions with Ohio’s election boards.
Rettig’s candidacy means state Rep. Robert Sprague will have two opponents in November’s general election. Sprague is unopposed for the Republican nomination in today’s primary.
In the fall, Sprague, of Findlay, will be challenged by Rettig and Libertarian Greg Norris of Rushsylvania.
Sprague and Rettig have squared off for the seat in the past, when Sprague won the GOP nomination in May 2012 with 65 percent of the vote. The 83rd Ohio House District includes Hancock and Hardin counties, and part of Logan County.
