McLane Grocery Distribution is the company that will eventually employ 425 people at an average wage of $57,000 per year on Findlay’s north end.
The company’s name was being withheld by local economic development and government leaders while it sought financial incentives from state government. But the company’s name appears on the agenda of today’s meeting of the State Tax Credit Authority. It is unclear what financial incentives McLane will receive.
McLane is a grocery supplier for convenience stores, mass merchants, drugstores and chain restaurants. It plans to build a $38 million, 337,831-square-foot distribution center south of Hancock County 212 and across from Lowe’s Distribution Center.
The distribution center will be highly automated, employing engineers and other technical workers operating machines, said Chris Schmenk, senior counsel for law firm Bricker & Eckler, Columbus.
The distribution center is expected to be operating by March 2016. It will take two to three years to ramp up to 425 employees, Schmenk said. Besides the average $57,000 pay per year, employees will be offered health insurance and other benefits, she said.
The distribution center will serve grocery stores in Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania and West Virginia, she said.
McLane is headquartered in Temple, Texas. It lists 21 distribution centers, each in a different state, on its website. It reports supplying over 45,000 retail grocery locations.
