Dollar General robbed at gunpoint

BETTSVILLE — Seneca County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a report of an armed robbery at Bettsville’s Dollar General store late Monday morning.

According to Sheriff William Eckelberry, a lone male allegedly entered the store, located at 3939 Ohio 12, shortly before 11 a.m., brandishing a handgun and demanding cash.

Eckelberry said the suspect then fled the store on foot in an unknown direction.

A Dollar General employee reported the suspect “jumped across the counter” and put a gun to her back, according to the sheriff’s office.

The vehicle possibly linked to the crime is a faded red, 1995 or newer, Chevrolet pickup truck with an extended cab, the sheriff’s office reported.

The suspect is described as a white male who appeared to be in his 30s with dark hair, a scruffy beard and a mustache. According to the release, he was wearing blue jeans, a hat, dark sunglasses and a Dale Earnhardt Jr. coat.

The sheriff’s office conducted a search of the area assisted by Bettsville police and the State Highway Patrol.

The newly constructed store has been open less than two weeks and is planning to celebrate its grand opening at 8 a.m. Saturday.

Anyone with information about the robbery is urged to contact the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office at 419-447-3456.
