Carey Council member resigns

CAREY — John Green, a Carey councilman since 2012, has resigned his post because of a conflict with a new out-of-town job and council meeting nights, according to The Progressor-Times newspaper.
Council is expected to discuss the issue at its 7 p.m. regular meeting Monday. Council has 30 days to fill the vacancy, or Mayor Steve Smalley can name someone.
Green told the newspaper the new job is in Columbus. He is required to be in that city Mondays and Tuesdays and would be unavailable for council meetings. Council meets the third Monday monthly through September, and the first and third Mondays the remainder of the year.
Green was appointed by council in January 2012 to fill a vacancy. He works in the insurance field and is a former Carey police dispatcher.
