Carey school groundbreaking set for July 11

CAREY — Groundbreaking for the Carey school will be held at 2 p.m. July 11 at the building site on South Vance Street.
School officials had hoped to have the ceremony on June 27, Superintendent Michael Wank on Thursday said the event will be held in July.
If it is raining, the ceremony will be held in the high school gymnasium at the East North Street building.
Building design continues by Fanning Howey Inc., Celina-based architects. Clearing of the nearly 40 acres of land has begun.
Gilbane Building Co. is the general contractor. The Rhode Island-based company has offices in Columbus and Cleveland.
The nearly 131,000-square-foot building will house preschool through senior high school students. It is expected to be ready for students and staff by fall 2016.
Carey School District voters approved a 6.5-mill bond issue in May 2013 to fund the district’s share of the nearly $30 million project. The state will fund the remainder.
