Convicted child rapist ordered to pay victim $750,000

OTTAWA — A former Continental teacher who was convicted of raping a child has been ordered to pay the victim about $750,000.
Jeffrey L. Perry must pay $496,730 for medical expenses and suffering, $250,000 in punitive damages, and about $6,480 in attorney fees for his crimes, according to Putnam County Common Pleas Court records.
The Lima News reported the money will go to a victim of several sexual assaults. The victim filed a lawsuit against Perry earlier this year.
Perry, 56, pleaded guilty to three first-degree felony counts of raping children younger than 13. He was sentenced in February 2013 to life in prison for all three convictions.
The victim was between the ages of 6 and 14 when Perry sexually assaulted him. The crimes took place between 1995 and 2011, according to the Lima News.
The judge described his actions as among the “most appalling and despicable” conduct he has seen among thousands of cases.
