The deadline to file an acreage report for spring-seeded crops is July 15, the state Farm Service Agency reports.
This includes: cabbage, planted March 19-May 31; corn, grain sorghum, hybrid corn seed, spring oats, popcorn, potatoes, soybeans, sugar beets, tomatoes and all other crops.
The Agricultural Act of 2014, commonly called the Farm Bill, requires farmers to submit annual acreage reports.
“Although some federal farm program enrollments have not yet started, timely acreage reports for all crops and land uses, including prevented and failed acreage that producers submit to their local (Farm Service Agency) office, are important to ensure program eligibility,” said Steve Maurer, executive director of the state Farm Service Agency.
Perennial forage crops intended for grazing or haying were required to be reported last fall. Perennial forage crops with an intended use of cover only, green manure, left standing, or seed, must be reported by July 15.
Farmers should contact the Hancock County Farm Service Agency office, 7868 Hancock County 140, 419-422-5438, ext. 2, if they are uncertain about acreage reporting deadlines.
