Putnam County man gets life for child rape

OTTAWA — A Continental man was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison after a jury found him guilty of raping a young girl.

Timothy W. Good, 53, was convicted of raping a 9-year-old girl in November 2010, and gross sexual imposition for sexual contact with a 5-year-old girl two years later.

The convictions are felonies of the first and third degree, respectively.

Good sat handcuffed and wore a jail inmate’s uniform during his brief hearing in Putnam County Common Pleas Court.

He once again denied he committed the crimes and declined to make a statement in his defense. Through his attorney, Good said he plans to appeal.

Both victims will continue to be traumatized by Good’s decisions, said county Assistant Prosecutor Todd Schroeder.

The older girl “will never truly recover from his acts toward her,” Schroeder said. “She reports to me repeated nightmares.”

Judge Randall Basinger sentenced Good to life in prison without a chance of parole.

Good’s “heinous acts” followed 35 years of adult criminal convictions spread over multiple states, Basinger said. The crimes included burglary, drunken driving and domestic violence, Basinger said.

Basinger noted in his sentence that Good continues to take no responsibility for his actions.

The jury found Good guilty after a two-day trial last month that included testimony from the older girl.
