Accident hurts two workers at Carey plant

CAREY — A malfunctioning or broken auger at Anderson Mineral Processing plant, 1855 Wyandot County 99, Carey, sent Upper Sandusky and Carey men to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries Tuesday night, the Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Charles R. Heffelfinger, 224 N. Fourth St., Upper Sandusky, was taken by Life Flight medical helicopter to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, Toledo, for a cut to an arm. He was listed in fair condition Wednesday morning.
Johnny Brewer, 106 Newhard St., Carey, was taken to Wyandot Memorial Hospital by ambulance. He suffered a leg cut and was briefly unconscious after he was struck on the head, according to sheriff’s Deputy Brandon Kromer. Brewer was treated at the hospital and released, according to a hospital spokesperson.
The accident was reported at 7:07 p.m. Tuesday.
Carey and Upper Sandusky emergency medical services and Carey Fire Department responded to the accident scene.
