Parole board not releasing Cooper

Staff Writer
The Ohio Parole Board in Columbus this week chose not to free a man who murdered a Findlay infant 35 years ago.
Christopher Cooper, 53, will remain in the Marion Correctional Institution. His next parole hearing is scheduled for April 2019, said Hancock County Prosecutor Mark Miller.
Monica Sue Williams was just 9 months old in August 1979 when Cooper raped and fatally struck her, said Williams’ mother, Becky Potter.
Cooper in May 1980 pleaded guilty to murder. He was sentenced in Hancock County Common Pleas Court to 15 years to life in prison.
Potter campaigns against his release each time Cooper makes an appearance before the parole board. Potter saves newspaper articles, photographs and letters of support regarding the case.
In the years since the murder, Potter said prayer has allowed her to no longer hate Cooper.
But, she said, it is unlikely Cooper has any chance of rehabilitation. Releasing him would threaten any neighborhood where he moves, Potter said.
