Rib-Off on Broadway and Car Tunes on Main are teaming up for a day of ribs, cars, live music and fun downtown!
The Arts Partnership presents its annual fundraiser, the Hancock Federal Credit Union Rib-Off on Broadway, on Saturday, Aug. 2, beginning at 3 p.m.
Prior to Rib-Off, the United Way of Hancock County and the Flag City Corvette Club will present the Cooper Tire Car Tunes on Main event, beginning at 11 a.m., combining for a full day of fun in downtown Findlay.
Beginning at 11 a.m., guests are invited to view a variety of automobiles, from classic cars to hot rods and modern marvels, as Car Tunes on Main revs up with the Community Cruise until 2 p.m. Cars will then be parked on Main Street for display at 3 p.m.
Beginning at 3 p.m., guests are invited to cut over to Broadway, where attendees can purchase ribs and a variety of side items from six local rib competitors: Cheddar’s, Miller’s Meats, Rocked Pizza, Smokin’ Buckeye BBQ, Waldo Pepper’s and Wally’s Great American BBQ. Also available for purchase will be Flag City Hot Dogs and Amy May’s Rockin’ Taco. Libations will be available for purchase for those of legal drinking age with a valid photo ID.
This annual fundraising event will also feature a variety of live music.
This year, there will be a battle of the bands taking place from 3 p.m. until approximately 7 p.m. Voting for the battle of the bands will end at 7:15 p.m., with the winner announced at 7:30 p.m.
The panel of judges includes Jayne Allen and Craig Allen, Coffee Amici; Reg Routson; and Karen Taschler, Hancock Federal Credit Union. Headlining the event will be a local band, The Athen Ry, beginning at 9 p.m.
During the Rib-Off, rib vendors will compete for honors in three categories: the “People’s Choice Award,” “Judge’s Choice Award” and “Best Sauce.” Attendees will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite rib vendor until 9 p.m. by sampling ribs from at least three rib vendors, and submitting a valid ballot into the “People’s Choice” ballot box. The “Judge’s Choice Award” and “Best Sauce” will be determined by a panel of local judges who will determine first-, second-, and third-place winners based on taste, tenderness and sauce.
This year’s panel of judges include: Cliff Hite, Ohio senator; John Holzwart, Hancock Federal Credit Union; Eric Siewert (Big Kahuna), 106.3 the Fox; Coach Robert Keys, the University of Findlay; Julie Brown, the Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation; Rex Howard, 100.5 WKXA; and Jordan Arnold, Bistro on Main.
The “People’s Choice Award,” “Best Sauce Award” and the “Judge’s Choice Award” winners will be announced on stage at 10 p.m.
Admission to the event will be $5 for adults and $3 for kids 12 and under. Proceeds from Rib-Off on Broadway help support the many arts education programs provided by the Arts Partnership each year.
The merchants on Broadway will be open for business during the day on Saturday. Alternative parking will be available and signage will be provided.
