Wood County Fair begins today

BOWLING GREEN — The 140th Wood County Fair will begin today and run through Aug. 4.
The fair will be held at the Wood County Fairgrounds on Poe Road and will feature a number of bands and events including a “Monster Truck Throwdown” Saturday. The “Throwdown” will start at the fairgrounds grandstand at 7 p.m. and costs $12 for those age 11 and up and $6 for anyone 10 years old and under.
Other featured events include a cheerleading competition at the grandstand at 2 p.m. Friday at the grandstand and a drag racing competition at 7 p.m. that day at the grandstand for $5; a demolition derby at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 4 for $10, or $5 for youth visitors and free for anyone under the age of 6.
The fair will also offer guests a chance to hear a variety of bands in the entertainment tent. Featured bands include: Classic Trendz from 7 to 10 p.m. Tuesday; Riverbend Band from 7 to 10 p.m. Wednesday; Alan Seibert from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday; the Dixieland Band from 11:10 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. Thursday; the Perrysburg Dance Academy from 12:30 to 1 p.m. Thursday; the Elizabeth Hayes Review from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday; Toast and Jam from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m. Thursday; Steel Wynd Band from 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday; Haywired from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday, 5 O’clock Rush from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday; Jericho Road, a southern gospel quartet, at 2 p.m. Sunday; quartet Sojourner at 4 p.m. Sunday and Southbound Fearing, a Christian rock quartet, at 8 p.m. Sunday.
The fair offers fair ride wristbands every day. From noon to 6 p.m., wristbands cost $12. From 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., they cost $15, and from noon to 11 p.m. they cost $18.
On Wednesday, wristbands will be on sale at a discount of $10 from noon to 5 p.m. and on Aug. 4 they will be available from noon to 8 p.m. at a discounted price of $12. Individual ride tickets are also available, according to the fair.
Fair admission prices are: daily admission, $6 per person; weeklong passes are $24 and allow visitors to enter into any competition or show; membership passes are $24 and allow a person to vote on the Wood County Fair Board of Directors on Aug. 4. Children 9 years old or younger are admitted for free.
