FOSTORIA — Law enforcement officials say Friday’s death of a 72-year-old Fostoria man, who recently reported being assaulted, remains under investigation.
Detective Sgt. Don Joseph with the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office said Russell E. Poole Sr. was found unresponsive at his West Ohio 18 residence on July 21 by neighbors and individuals working on his home.
He was taken to ProMedica Fostoria Community Hospital, then transferred to ProMedica Toledo Hospital, where he died from unknown injuries.
Poole had called the sheriff’s office at 4:33 a.m. July 16 and reported an assault that he said took place late on July 15.
Joseph said he is unaware whether Poole was treated for any injuries at that point.
“He was up and around and moving for almost a week before he was found” unresponsive, Joseph said. “Without further medical information, it’s hard to make a determination as to what the cause of death is.”
Joseph said he has searched Poole’s house at 8702 W. Ohio 18, Lot 62, where he found “minor amounts of blood.”
Poole’s body was taken to the Lucas County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy. Results are not yet available.
“We’ll be looking for injuries indicative of an assault,” Joseph said. “We’ll look at any type of injuries that may have caused or are contributing to his death.”
