Elmwood teens enter pleas in cancer scam

BOWLING GREEN — Two area students have admitted to soliciting money for a non-existent cancer victim.

The brothers, 15 and 17 years old, admitted to a first-degree misdemeanor charge of theft on Tuesday in Wood County Juvenile Court, according to The Blade. They were then found delinquent and scheduled for a Sept. 22 disposition hearing, the newspaper reported.

Residents of Hancock and Wood counties told law enforcement that the Elmwood High School students sought donations from them for a teacher battling cancer.

Prosecutor Paul Dobson did not return a call seeking comment Wednesday.
