County unemployment rate rises

Hancock County’s unemployment rate increased in July to 4.8 percent from 4.5 percent in June, the state reported Tuesday.

It was the seventh-lowest rate among Ohio’s 88 counties and much lower than Hancock County’s 6.3 percent rate in July 2013, the state Job and Family Services Department reported.

Unemployment rates increased last month among most neighboring counties and in 73 of Ohio’s 88 counties.

Jobless rates in July in neighboring counties, with June rates in parentheses, were: Allen, 6.1 percent (5.6 percent); Hardin, 6 (5.2); Henry, 5.3 (5.6); Putnam, 5 (4.4); Seneca, 5.6 (5.3); Wood, 5.6 (5.4); Wyandot, 4.7 (4.7).
Ohio’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate grew last month to 5.7 percent from 5.5 percent in June.
