When Marathon Petroleum Corp. President Gary Heminger said Tuesday that the location of Citgo’s refineries is interesting, some media outlets then reported that Marathon had “expressed interest” in the refineries. The refineries reportedly are for sale.
But Heminger, who was answering an analyst’s question about Citgo’s refineries, was not expressing interest in them, according to Marathon Petroleum. He was acknowledging that their locations are interesting, Marathon Petroleum stated.
“At (Marathon Petroleum), we continuously look at various opportunities. (Heminger) added that we do not discuss whether or not we are interested in those assets or any others,” the company stated.
Heminger in a July 31 conference distanced himself from a potential Citgo refinery purchase when asked.
“Right now we’re pretty satisfied with our footprint,” Heminger said on July 31.
The Citgo refineries are in Louisiana, Texas and Illinois.
