Siblings Caleb and Brylie Aukerman, 13 and 11, respectively, have amassed over 400 tubes of chapstick for their second annual Chapstick for Children collection. The brother and sister team, who attend Liberty Benton elementary and middle schools, were busy packaging the chapsticks Tuesday. Their mom, Tracy Aukerman, plans to deliver them to Jacobs Primary School in Findlay by the end of the week. Tracy, a first-grade teacher at Jacobs, said her kids made posters and hung them at their schools and their church, and even enlisted the help of neighbors and some out-of-state family friends. “Every student at Jacobs is getting one,” Tracy said of the chapsticks, noting any extra will be donated to Findlay charities. The collection came about last winter when Tracy told her children about the many kids at Jacobs visiting the school nurse for relief from chapped and bleeding lips. She asked her children what they might do to help, and they settled on the chapstick collection. “I was just excited because they wanted to do it again” this year,” she said. Anyone wishing to donate to the cause may contact Tracy at taukerman@fcs.org. (Photo provided / Tracy Aukerman)
