Mathias named Findlay police lieutenant

Findlay Police Sgt. James Mathias has been promoted to lieutenant, city officials announced Friday.

Mathias was sworn into his new position by Findlay Mayor Lydia Mihalik.

Mathias will oversee the Special Services Division, which oversees the Police Department’s dispatch center, police records, police training, and the officers in the property, crime prevention and court officer positions.

Mathias began his career with Findlay police 22 years ago. He was hired as a full-time officer in 1995 and assigned to the Patrol Division. Prior to his time at Findlay, he worked with the Upper Sandusky Police Department for four and a half years.

Mathias has served as a sergeant since 2001 and has worked in the Patrol Division. He also served as a detective sergeant in the Hancock-METRICH Drug Unit for four and a half years

Mathias is a graduate of New Riegel High School and of Terra State Community College. He has an associate degree in law enforcement.

He has served as a field training officer and was the Police Department’s Officer of Year in 1996.

Mathias was honored with the John Edward Seman Award for Employee Excellence from the City of Findlay in 2014.
