Hancock grand jury indicts ex-trooper

A former State Highway Patrol trooper was among 14 people indicted Tuesday by a Hancock County grand jury.

Dean W. Laubacher, 49, of Findlay, was charged with theft in office, a fifth-degree felony, for allegedly stealing $764 from the State Highway Patrol on March 7, 2016.

Hancock County Prosecutor Phil Riegle said Laubacher has since retired.

Separately, a woman was accused of assaulting another woman in McComb. Cassandra L. Thomas, 23, of McComb, was charged with felonious assault, a second-degree felony. Riegle said the victim suffered injuries that required surgery. The incident allegedly occurred Sept. 20.

Juan D. Delarosa, 43, of Fostoria, was charged with robbery, a second-degree felony, after allegedly inflicting harm on another man while committing a theft offense at the reservoir. The incident allegedly occurred Oct. 9.

Five other people were indicted on theft-related charges, including Travis L. Herrera, 29, address unknown, who was charged with trespassing in a habitation where a person is present or likely to be present, a fourth-degree felony, for an incident that allegedly occurred Sept. 14 in the 200 block of Center Street.

Catherine J. Holzwart, 52, of Findlay, was charged with theft, a fifth-degree felony, for allegedly taking money from Hohenbrink Excavating, Findlay, between Dec. 20, 2016, and Aug. 24, 2017.

Carl J. Evans, 45, address unknown, was charged with receiving stolen property, a fourth-degree felony, for an incident involving a car that allegedly occurred Nov. 3.

Jeffery J. Walters, 60, of Findlay, was charged with burglary, a third-degree felony, for allegedly trespassing in a residence in the 1200 block of South Main Street on Oct. 14.

Gary A. Ashley, 59, of Waterford, Michigan, was charged with receiving stolen property, a fourth-degree felony, for an incident involving a pickup truck that allegedly occurred Nov. 11.

Separately, Dylan M. Meyers, 23, of Findlay, was charged with tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony, for an incident involving a cellphone that allegedly occurred Oct. 20.

Rodney D. Smith Jr., 33, of Findlay, was charged with failing to appear in court on Sept. 28.

Four people were charged with drug-related crimes:

  • John B. Robinson, 48, of Findlay, was charged with possession of cocaine, a fifth-degree felony, for an incident that allegedly occurred March 9.
  • Daniel R. Bays, 25, of Kenton, was charged with aggravated possession of drugs, a third-degree felony, for allegedly having oxycodone on March 22.
  • Randy L. Dunson, 53, of Findlay, was charged with aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, for allegedly having possession of a controlled substance on Feb. 28.
  • Larry A. Deal Jr., 50, of McComb, was charged with possession of cocaine, a fourth-degree felony, for an incident that allegedly occurred Aug. 24.

Four secret indictments were also released:

  • Robert J. Stokes, 43, of Findlay, was charged with aggravated trafficking in drugs, a fourth-degree felony, for allegedly selling a synthetic form of marijuana on Jan. 30. He was charged on Oct. 31.
  • Jake W. Faulkner, 42, of Toledo, was charged with two counts of trafficking in cocaine, each a fifth-degree felony, for incidents that allegedly occurred May 23 and May 25, 2016. Faulkner was charged on April 18.
  • Dominique J. Blakely, 25, of Findlay, was charged Oct. 31 with two counts of trafficking in cocaine, each a fifth-degree felony, after incidents that allegedly occurred Dec. 29, 2016, and Jan. 9.
  • Natasha M. Wansitler, 26, of Findlay, was charged Oct. 31 with trafficking in cocaine, a fifth-degree felony, for an incident that allegedly occurred Nov. 17, 2016.
