Beginning today, visitors to the Hancock County Juvenile and Probate Court will have to go through metal detectors to enter the building.
Hancock County Sheriff Mike Heldman said the court had a security breach around Jan. 1, and since then two deputies have been on duty at the door of the court. The extra security plans were added recently.
The new juvenile court metal detectors are old equipment from the Hancock County Courthouse, Heldman said.
Plans have been made to add new metal detectors when the building is updated.
Heldman said the added security is needed. He said the building’s size and the number of people coming in and out each day are a concern.
