Fostorian facing child pornography charge following search

FOSTORIA — A Fostoria man was arrested Thursday on a charge related to child pornography.

Charles B. O’Neill, 58, 1023 Gerlock Drive, is facing charges of pandering obscenity involving a minor, a second-degree felony.

Fostoria police and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation conducted a search at the residence around 5 p.m. Thursday after officers received information regarding alleged child pornography.

“There is no crime greater than against our children,” Police Chief Keith Loreno said. “I am proud that my officers acted quickly to expedite this investigation.”

The investigation was initiated by Sgt. William Campbell and officer Cory Brian. BCI used special agents from the Cyber-Crimes unit as well as Crimes Against Children unit.

In addition, BCI K-9 officer Reptar, who is trained to locate hidden electronic devices with storage capabilities, assisted in the search.

According to the Ohio Attorney General’s website, Reptar is a 2-year-old Labrador retriever who “finds devices that are hidden in plain sight — and the ones that are purposefully concealed because a suspect does not want us to find them.”

While working, Reptar listens to commands to search an area and makes an alert when he discovers something.

Loreno said evidence was seized during the search and will be processed.

O’Neill is in police custody and will be transported to the Seneca County Jail. The investigation is ongoing.
