NORTH BALTIMORE — Starting next school year, restrictions will be placed on North Baltimore students using cellphones and other electronic devices, the district school board was told Tuesday.
“There is no educational purpose to possess a cellphone during the school day unless a teacher deems it appropriate for a particular lesson,” high school Principal Bob Falkenstein said.
Falkenstein presented a list of changes to the student handbook that will go into effect next school year.
Cellphone use will be allowed in the cafeteria at lunch.
“The school’s position is we are not here to get students off of their phones,” he added.
In other business, the school board:
- Honored student Owen Johnson for his first-place finish in a logo contest by the Ohio Energy Project, sponsored through Hancock-Wood Electric Cooperative.
- Approved a middle school trip to Washington, D.C., from May 15-19, 2019.
- Is seeking grants for lighting upgrades throughout the district’s buildings.
