College Basketball: Kocian leads Ohio Northern past Mount Union

ALLIANCE — Senior Sara Kocian scored a career-high 15 points to lead the Ohio Northern University women’s basketball team to a 60-45 Ohio Athletic Conference victory at Mount Union Saturday afternoon.
The Polar Bears improved to 10-3 overall and 3-3 in the OAC while the Purple Raiders fell to 7-6, 1-5.
Junior Jordan Kimes also scored in double figures for Ohio Northern with 11 points.
Olivia Holt netted nine points for Mount Union.

ADA — Ohio Northern University’s men’s basketball team outscored Mount Union 43-32 in the second half, but the damage from the first half was too much to overcome as the Polar Bears lost to the Purple Raiders 71-67 in an Ohio Athletic Conference game Saturday.
Ten players scored for each team and Mount Union’s Jarrett Ruffin had a game-high 14 points. Ohio Northern’s Dominique Royal scored 12 points, Jordan Martin added 11 and both players had a team-high six rebounds.
Mount Union (10-2, 5-0 OAC) shot 23 of 48 (48 percent) from the floor and 17 of 22 from the free-throw line, but had 20 turnovers opposed to Ohio Northern’s 12.
The Polar Bears (7-6, 3-3 OAC) shot 26 of 66 (39 percent) from the floor, including 6 of 22 (27 percent) from three-point range.
