UF Sports Roundup: Walters, Sergent unbeaten for UF Roughnecks

DES MOINES, Ia. — University of Findlay veterans Ben Sergent and Adam Walters both had perfect days as the Roughnecks posted a 1-2 record at the National Wrestling Coaches Association NCAA Division II National Duals at Hyvee Hall on Saturday.
The Roughnecks dropped a 29-9 decision to Central Oklahoma and a 21-16 match to Lake Erie College before pinning a 31-19 loss on Minnesota State-Mankato.
Sergent scored a pair of overtime victories in his first two bouts and won by forfeit in his final match. Walters scored a pair of tight 3-2 wins in his first two matches before scoring a first-period pin in his finale.
Bradley Metz was 2-1 at 165 pounds for UF.

Sanmiquel wins twice for UF track
Maud Sanmiquel played a part in two first-place finishes at the Hillsdale Winter Open and Erica King grabbed a second-place spot at the Doug Raymond Invitational as the University of Findlay indoor track and field teams competed in two events Saturday.
Sanmiquel won the 400 with a time of 1:00.07 and teamed with Kadesha Roberts, Carlie Stump and Adrianna Powell-Lawrence to take the 1,600 relay in 4:01.65.
King was second in the weight throw (52-103/4), while Justin Welch also added a second-place showing in the weight throw with a heave of 68-71/4).
The Oilers got a top finish from Pam Showman in the long jump (16-6) and a third-place in the 60 hurdles after she posted a time of 9.23.
Lydia Guagenti’s mark of 5-51/4 earned her first place in the high jump and Lilia Malyarova finished second with a leap of 16-41/2.
Samantha Grippe placed second in the 800 (2:22.50).
Alexander Zolotoglavyy led the men’s team by taking first in the long jump with a mark of 22-81/2, while Dillon Webster posted a 49.08 in the 400 to earn top honors and crossed the finish line in 22.86 for third place in the 200.
The team of Webster, Maliik Briggs, Kyle Smithey and Jacob Miller was second in the 1,600 relay (3:28.34).
Derek Collins placed second in the long jump with a mark of 21-61/4 as well for the Oilers.
The Oilers return home to host the Northwest Ohio Invitational Friday at the Malcolm Athletic Center.
