Ohio Northern women improve to 10-3

ALLIANCE — Senior Sara Kocian scored a career-high 15 points to lead the Ohio Northern University women’s basketball team to a 60-45 Ohio Athletic Conference victory at Mount Union on Saturday afternoon.
The Polar Bears improved to 10-3 overall and 3-3 in the OAC while the Purple Raiders fell to 7-6, 1-5.
Jordan Kimes also scored in double figures for Ohio Northern with 11 points.
Olivia Holt netted nine points for Mount Union.
ONU men defeated
ADA — Ohio Northern University’s men’s basketball team outscored Mount Union 43-32 in the second half, but the damage from the first half was too much to overcome as the Polar Bears lost to the Purple Raiders 71-67 in an Ohio Athletic Conference game Saturday.
Jarrett Ruffin had a game-high 14 points for Mount Union (10-2, 5-0 OAC).
Ohio Northern’s Dominique Royal scored 12 points, Jordan Martin added 11 and both players had a team-high six rebounds for the Polar Bears (7-6, 3-3 OAC).
Bluffton women rally
BLUFFTON — Bluffton University’s women’s basketball team trailed at halftime but rebounded in a big way to knock off Hanover 81-71 in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference game Saturday at the Sommer Center.
Bluffton (8-5, 4-2 HCAC) trailed 34-32 at halftime but blitzed Hanover 49-37 in the second half to get the win.
Taylor Whitaker led six Beavers in double figures with 17 points.
Brooke Ruffer had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Kaitlyn Pennekamp (14 points), Belicia Cooper (12), Rachel Beining (10) and Gwen Downing (10) also reached double digits for Bluffton.
Alicia Hopkins netted 15 points and Megan Caudill added 14 to lead Hanover (5-8, 3-3).
Hanover downs BU men
BLUFFTON — Four players scored in double figures for Hanover College as the Panthers handled Bluffton University 75-59 in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup Saturday.
Tim Bass had 16 points and 10 assists to lead Hanover (9-4, 5-1 HCAC).
Billy Taflinger scored 16 points to lead Bluffton (6-7, 2-4 HCAC).
Will Pope added 12 points and a game-high eight rebounds for the Beavers.
