Roughnecks 1-2 at National Duals

DES MOINES, Iowa — University of Findlay veterans Ben Sergent and Adam Walters both had perfect days as the Roughnecks posted a 1-2 record Saturday at the National Wrestling Coaches Association NCAA Division II National Duals in Des Moines, Iowa.
The Roughnecks dropped a 29-9 decision to Central Oklahoma and a 21-16 match to Lake Erie College before pinning a 31-19 loss on Minnesota State-Mankato.
Sergent scored a pair of overtime victories in his first two bouts and won by forfeit in his final match. Walters scored a pair of tight 3-2 wins before scoring a first-period pin in his finale.
Bradley Metz was 2-1 at 165 pounds for UF.

Sanmiquel wins twice
Maud Sanmiquel played a part in two first-place finishes at the Hillsdale Winter Open and Erica King and Justin Welch had second-place efforts at the Doug Raymond Invitational at Kent State as the University of Findlay indoor track and field teams competed in two events Saturday.
Sanmiquel won the 400 with a time of 1:00.07 and teamed with Kadesha Roberts, Carlie Stump and Adrianna Powell-Lawrence to take the 1,600 relay in 4:01.65. Pam Showman (16-6) and Lilia Malyorava (16-41/2) went 1-2 in the long jump, Lydia Guagenti won the high jump (5-51/4) and Samantha Grippe placed second in the 800 (2:22.50).
Alexander Zolotoglavyy won the long jump (22-81/2) and Dillon Webster the 400 (49.08) to lead UF’s men’s team at Hillsdale. Webster was also third in the 200 (22.86) and teamed with Maliik Briggs, Kyle Smithey and Jacob Miller on the second-place 1,600 relay (3:28.34). Derek Collins was second in the long jump (21-61/4).
At Kent State, King had a throw of 52-103/4 and Welch 68-71/4 in placing second, respectively, in the women’s and men’s weight throws.
The Oilers will host the Northwest Ohio Invitational on Friday at the Malcolm Athletic Center.
