Locally: Riverdale crushes Crestline, 78-14

CRESTLINE — After suffering its first North Central Conference loss of the season to Bucyrus Tuesday night, Riverdale took out its frustrations on Crestline with a 78-14 NCC girls basketball win over the Bulldogs Wednesday night.
Taylor Frey led three Riverdale players in double figures with 19 points. Jordyn Wright scored 18 and Ashlynn Walter added 10 points and six rebounds for the Falcons (9-3 overall, 7-1 NCC).
Kenzie Ronk netted seven points for the Bulldogs (1-12, 0-8).

ONU men fall
TIFFIN — Heidelberg’s Deonte Holder made a lay-up and hit two free throws with a second left as the Student Princes upended Ohio Northern 78-75 in an Ohio Athletic Conference men’s basketball matchup on Wednesday.
Mike Petrie scored a game-high 29 points as Heidelberg, 5-9 overall, notched its first win in seven OAC games. Fort Jennings graduate Jared Horstman had 21 points and eight rebounds for ONU. Dominique Royal added 14 points and Isaiah Roux 11 points for the Polar Bears (7-7, 3-4 OAC).

Defiance men top BU
DEFIANCE — Ryan Hicks scored 14 points to power Defiance College to a 55-42 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men’s basketball win over Bluffton University Wednesday night.
Will Pope netted 15 points and Arlington grad Thayne Recker chipped in five for the Beavers (6-8, 2-5 HCAC).
McComb product Mason Roth and Ottawa-Glandorf grad Travis Schoemaeker both chipped in eight points for Defiance (10-4, 5-2).

Tietje powers Defiance
DEFIANCE — Defiance College got 38 points from four former girls basketball standouts in posting a 70-61 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference win over Bluffton University on Wednesday.
Patrick Henry graduate Kelsey Tietje scored 19 points and O-G grad Kim Bingley added 12 for Defiance. Pandora-Gilboa’s Ashley Williams (4) and Columbus Grove’s Ashley Birchmeier added another seven points for the Yellow Jackets (5-9, 2-5 HCAC).
Brooke Ruffer scored 12 points, Taylor Knight 11 and Kaitlyn Pennekamp 10 for Bluffton (8-6, 4-3 HCAC).

ONU whips ‘Berg
ADA — Sophomore Carly Thomas scored a career-high 22 points to lead the Ohio Northern women’s basketball team to a 81-66 Ohio Athletic Conference victory over Heidelberg on Wednesday night at the ONU Sports Center.
Senior Cenzie Yoder finished with 14 points, four rebounds and four assists, while sophomore Brooke Espenschied added 10 points, six assists and five rebounds for the Polar Bears.
Heidelberg fell to 10-4 and 3-4.

Recker aids win
HUNTINGON, Ind. — Arlington graduate Amelia Recker scored 21 points in leading Huntington University to a 96-55 romp over Bethel on Wednesday. Recker’s efforts helped Huntington impove to 13-5 overall.
