Boys Basketball: Late burst lifts Heritage Christian

Heritage Christian’s boys basketball team scored five points in the final 34 seconds to force overtime in Thursday’s matchup with Wayside Christian, and a 15-3 overtime advantage gave the Minutemen a 79-67 overtime win.
Andrew VanDenBerghe’s 3-pointer cut Heritage Christian’s deficit to 64-62, and Josiah Long’s bucket with four seconds left sent the game into overtime.
Dillon Berry led Heritage Christian (4-3) with 20 points, five assists and three steals. Lewis Larsen had 17 points and eight rebounds, and VanDenBerghe added 15 points, including a team-high three 3-pointers.
The Minutemen shot 31-63 (49 percent) from the floor, including 5 of 10 from three-point range. Heritage Christian was 12 of 14 (86 percent) from the free throw line, and Wayside Christian shot 12 of 26 (46 percent).
Jeff Hamilton had 25 points to lead Wayside Christian (0-7).

NORTH BALTIMORE — Tim Ink led three New Riegel players in double figures with 16 points Thursday as the Blue Jackets raced by North Baltimore 61-38 in a Midland Athletic League boys basketball game.
Aaron Acree scored 12 points and Jake Dryfuse added 11 for New Riegel (5-7, 3-3 MAL). Dryfuse grabbed eight rebounds as the Blue Jackets had a 35-25 edge on the boards.
Chad Wright led North Baltimore (6-8, 2-4 MAL) with 12 points and nine rebounds. Jacob Frost scored eight points.
