BVC basketball: Knights keep pace in league race

LEIPSIC — Braxton Fasone dropped 14 points and Mac Williams added 10 to lead Van Buren’s boys basketball team over Leipsic 54-42 in a Blanchard Valley Conference matchup Friday.
Despite trailing 12-9 after the first quarter, the Black Knights (7-5, 4-1 BVC) came back by outscoring Leipsic 28-13 over the next two quarters to take a 37-25 lead.
Van Buren was 14 of 20 (70 percent) shooting from the free-throw line, and Leipsic was 11 of 18 (61 percent).
Jordan Brown had 20 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter, to lead Leipsic (6-6, 2-2 BVC).

DOLA — Vanlue overcame a slow start in the first quarter to beat Hardin Northern 43-35 on Friday in Blanchard Valley Conference boys basketball.
After leading just 4-2 after the first quarter, Vanlue (4-7, 2-2 BVC) outscored Hardin Northern 39-33 the rest of the way.
Austin Smith hit four 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 18 points to lead Vanlue. Nick Hagerty added 14 points as the Wildcats used a 16-9 run in the second quarter to secure a 20-11 halftime lead.
Jacob Gossard and Rylie Drumm finished with 12 points each for Hardin Northern (1-11, 0-5), which is still seeking its first BVC win.
The Polar Bears staged a late rally that came up just short, outscoring Vanlue 13-8 in the fourth quarter.

ARCADIA — Matt Glick and Michael Blunk each poured in 17 points Friday to lead Arlington’s boys basketball team over Arcadia 70-34 in a Blanchard Valley Conference game.
Arlington shot 27 of 42 (64 percent) from the floor, including 5 of 14 (36 percent) from 3-point range. The Red Devils were 11 of 16 (69 percent) from the free-throw line.
Andrew Hunter had 11 points and a team-high six assists for Arlington, which had only six turnovers compared to Arcadia’s 21.
Hayden Ramsey had 10 points, including three 3-pointers, to lead Arcadia (3-8, 1-4 BVC).

RAWSON — Seth Schmenk hit his only 2-point field goal of the game as time was running out to lift Pandora-Gilboa to a 32-30 win Friday over Cory-Rawson in Blanchard Valley Conference boys basketball.
Schmenk, who scored the game-winning basket with just four seconds left on the clock, led a balanced Pandora-Gilboa attack with nine points. Jared Tousley had five rebounds for the Rockets (2-9, 2-4 BVC).
Led by Grant Risner with 13 points and 15 rebounds, Cory-Rawson (1-10, 1-4 BVC) had opportunities of its own to put the game away. The Hornets led 17-16 at halftime and held a 27-24 advantage heading into the fourth quarter, but a 2 for 10 effort at the free-throw line was the Hornets’ undoing.
