UF Roundup: UF women’s swim team beats Ohio Wesleyan

DELAWARE — The University of Findlay women’s swim team picked up a nonconference dual meet win on Saturday by beating Ohio Wesleyan 127-95.
The Oilers’ 400 freestyle relay of Jessica Ward, Hannah Schreiber, Emily Annen and Ailsa Hershaw took first place in 3:48.55. Molly Cade teamed up with Ward, Annen and Hershaw to take first place in the 400-yard medley relay (4:05.69).
Cade also won a pair of individual events, winning the 50-yard free (25.28) and the 200 butterfly (2:09.63).
Ward added a victory in the 200 backstroke (2:11.34).
Kaley Holmstrom was a double winner, taking the 200 breaststroke (2:29.94) and 400 individual medley (4:46.48).
Ashleigh Weddington swept the diving events, winning the 1-meter competition with a score of 233.1 and taking the 3-meter event with 238.1 points.
On the men’s side, Findlay’s Todo Djurovic won the 400 individual medley (4:15.30) and the 200 breaststroke (2:09.64) as the Oilers dropped a 124-76 decision to the Battling Bishops.
Colton Sayers captured the 200 fly in 2:01.27.
The Oilers travel to Grand Valley State on Saturday.

Walters leads wrestlers
KENOSHA, Wis. — Adam Walters was perfect for the University of Findlay wrestlers but the Roughnecks went winless as a team at Saturday’s Ranger Duals at Wisconsin-Parkside.
The Roughnecks dropped matches to St. Cloud State (31-10), McKendree (33-9) and Augustana (34-9).
Walters, the second-ranked wrestler in the country at 174 pounds, scored an 8-4 win by decision over St. Cloud State’s Clayton Jennissen to open the meet and then ended the meet with two straight pins. Walters pinned McKendree’s Cody Willis in 4:33 and dropped Augustana’s Drake Fanslau in 1:20.
Bradley Metz (165) posted a 2-1 record for Findlay.

Averesch has big day
The University of Findlay’s Kendra Averesch had a big day as the Leipsic graduate led the Oilers’ indoor track and field teams at Friday’s Northwest Ohio Invitational at the Koehler Center.
Averesch was third in the women’s weight throw as she earned a spot in the NCAA Division II national championships with an automatic qualifying toss of 55-5½. She added a second-place performance in the shot put with a school record toss of 50-9¼ to lead the UF women in the 15-team event.
The Oilers won a championship in the women’s meet as Adrianna Powell-Lawrence, Kadesha Roberts, Kirsten Gaerke and Hardin Northern product Shelby Stump teamed up to win the 1,600 relay (4:03.11).
Findlay’s nationally-ranked men’s team earned wins in four events.
The sixth-rated Oilers were particularly strong in the field events as Demorrio Leggett won the triple jump (49-9½), Alexander Zolotoglavyy won the long jump (22-7¼), and Justin Welch captured the weight throw (69-5½).
Findlay’s Dillon Webster crossed the finish line first in the 500 (1:03.41).
Findlay will be back in action next Friday and Saturday when it hosts the Findlay Classic.
