Boys basketball: Carey downs rival Upper Sandusky

UPPER SANDUSKY — Jared Wentling and Bryan Powers were an unstoppable two-man wrecking crew on Monday, combining for 53 points in the Blue Devils’ 66-59 win over Upper Sandusky in a nonleague battle between the Wyandot County rivals.
Wentling poured in 31 points and Powers scored 22. The junior guards scored all 35 Carey points in the second half when the Blue Devils (12-3), trailing 32-31 at the break, rallied to win their 12th game of the season.
Wentling scored 13 points in the fourth quarter and 23 in the second half. Powers scored 12 of his 22 points in the second half, including a perfect 7 for 7 effort from the line.
Carey’s 1-2 punch of Wentling and Powers topped Upper Sandusky’s balanced scoring. Cody Clifford led the Rams (7-7) with 18 points, Wes Vent and Seth Frey scored 14 each and Cody Collins had nine.
