UF Roundup: Ashland drubs UF women, 80-55

Ashland University’s women’s basketball team graduated a talented group from last year’s NCAA Division III championship squad.
But the Eagles looked every bit a championship team on Thursday, especially in the second half, as they raced past the University of Findlay 80-55 in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game at Croy Gymnasium.
Junior guard Taylor Woods, one of two returning starters for Ashland, hit 7 of 11 3-pointers and poured in 25 points. Six-one freshman Suzy Wollenhaupt scored 17 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked seven shots and Alyssa Miller, the Eagles’ other returning starter and the only senior on the roster, scored 13 points and dished out eight assists as Ashland, the preseason pick to win the GLIAC South Division title, improved to 9-6 overall and 7-4 in GLIAC play.
Margaret Wuebker was 7 of 16 from the field and 7 of 10 from the line for a team-high 21 points. She was UF’s lone double-figure scorer, though, as the Oilers (7-8, 4-7 GLIAC) made just 2 of 19 3-point attempts and 17 of 67 field goals (25.4 percent) overall.
