The University of Findlay’s women’s distance medley relay team took first place Friday in the first day of competition at the Findlay Indoor Track and Field Classic at the Malcolm Athletic Center.
The Oilers had several other event winners. Justin Welch won the weight throw (71-91/2) and his throw qualified him for the NCAA Division II indoor championships. The men’s distance medley relay team also finished first.
The women’s distance medley relay quarter of Erica Bettac, Emily Caudill, Samantha Grippe and Alexa Stults finished in 12:32.95. Kendra Averesch (Leipsic) placed second in the weight throw (57-31/2) and Erica King was third (57-2). Both had provisional qualifying throws.
Pam Showman was seventh in the pentathlon (3,571 points) and Maud Sanmiquel ninth (3,386). Both were provisional qualifying marks.
Jacob Hayes, Kyle Smithey (Elmwood), Dillon Webster and Justin Eilerman made up the men’s distance medley relay squad that finished in 10:14.50, a provisional qualifying time.
The meet continues at 9:25 a.m. today.
