DAYTON — Carey’s Todd Worst has been named as an assistant coach for this year’s Ohio High School Football Coaches Association’s North-South Classic.
Worst, who has a 62-24 record in seven seasons as head coach at Carey, will be an assistant coach for the North team in the Division IV-VIII game.
Berlin Center Western Reserve’s Andy Hake will serve as the North head coach. Gates Mills Gilmour Academy’s Shawn Dodd, Mantua Crestwood’s Pete Thompson and Columbia’s Jason Ward will also be assistant coaches.
No area players were selected to play in this year’s game.
The small school game will be April 26 at 1 p.m. at Dayton Welcome Stadium. The big school game will follow at 4:30 p.m.
NB hall of famers
NORTH BALTIMORE — North Baltimore will honor its newest sports hall of fame inductees before the school’s Feb. 7 boys basketball game against Hopewell-Loudon.
Leanne Watkins, a 1994 graduate who excelled in basketball and track, and Bri Rensch, a 2007 grad and softball player, will be honored.
All community members are encouraged to attend.
ONU’s Lohnes honored
ADA — For the second time this season, Ohio Northern sophomore women’s swimmer Allison Lohnes has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Women’s Swimmer of the Week.
On Friday, against Mount Union, she swept the backstroke events, winning the 100 back in 1:00.27 and the 200 back in 2:14.80. She was also a member of the 400 medley relay team that placed first in 4:07.20.
On Saturday Lohnes captured the 50 free in 25.94 seconds and finished second in the 100 and 200 back events to lead the Polar Bears against Case Western Reserve.
Ricker to Ohio Northern
FORT JENNINGS — Fort Jennings soccer standout Seth Ricker has verbally committed to play soccer at Ohio Northern University.
Ricker, a senior, was Putnam County League co-player of the year and a first-team all-district selection each of the past two seasons.
Ricker is also a co-captain for the Toledo Pacesetter Premier U-18 team located in Toledo.
