Local roundup: Crossroads League names Arcadia grad Palmer player of week

HUNTINGTON, Ind. — Arcadia graduate and Huntington University freshman Miranda Palmer was named the Crossroads League player of the week for her 19.5 points and 3.0 rebounds per game in two wins by the Foresters last week.
Palmer’s reverse layup with 16 seconds remaining proved to be the game-winner in Huntington’s 51-49 upset over 7th-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University, in which she finished with a game-high 22 points.
The 5-foot-6 guard dropped in 17 points and grabbed four boards in the Foresters 95-55 dismantling of Goshen College on Saturday.
Palmer shot 54 percent from the field in the two contests, including hitting 5 of 10 from behind the arc and going 8 of 8 from the free-throw line.
Richey signs with Owens
TOLEDO — Kalida senior Ian Richey signed a letter of intent Saturday to play soccer at Owens Community College.
Richey played four years as a midfielder/forward at Kalida, earning first team all-Putnam County League honors twice, as well as being tabbed a one-time first team all-district selection, one-time second team all-district and one-time second team all-Ohio Division II pick.
He also served as a team captain in his senior season and his game-winning penalty kick goal helped the Wildcats advance to the regional finals.
OAC honors ONU wrestler
ADA — Ohio Northern’s Cody Lovejoy was named Ohio Athletic Conference wrestler of the week after outstanding performances against Mount Union and at the John Summa Invitational last week.
The junior scored a 16-0 technical fall against Mount Union on Thursday and followed that up by going 4-0 with three pins at the Summa Invitational to capture the 285-pound title.
Lovejoy is currently ranked No. 7 in the nation at 285-pounds and leads the team with 34 wins and 21 pins.
