ALLIANCE — Isaiah Roux scored 26 points and dished out five assists for Ohio Northern University as the Polar Bears upset Ohio Athletic Conference-leader Mount Union 90-85 in men’s basketball action Saturday.
Branden Rushton (18 points), Jared Horstman (14), Dominique Royal (13) and Jordan Martin (12) also scored in double figures for Ohio Northern (14-9, 10-6 OAC).
Mount Union (19-4, 14-2 OAC) was 28 of 59 (48 percent) from the floor and 18 of 26 (69 percent) from the foul line.
Jarrett Ruffin had a double-double, 18 points and 10 rebounds, to lead the Purple Raiders.
ONU women win
ADA — Ohio Northern’s women’s basketball team used a 35-25 second-half advantage to defeat Mount Union 60-50 in Ohio Athletic Conference action on Saturday.
Cenzie Yoder had a solid game for Ohio Northern (19-4, 12-4 OAC), leading the Polar Bears with 16 points, eight assists, seven rebounds and three steals. Jordan Kimes also scored in double figures with 15 points and swatted a game-high five blocks.
Aly Daniel’s 10 points and seven rebounds led Mount Union (11-12, 5-11 OAC).
Bluffton men fall
BLUFFTON — Julian Strickland dropped in 27 points as Rose-Hulman rallied from a 40-22 halftime deficit to defeat Bluffton University 61-55 and stay atop the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference standings Saturday.
The Fighting Engineers improved to 19-4 overall and 14-2 in HCAC play, and Rose-Hulman coach Jim Shaw earned his 300th win at the school.
Thayne Recker (Arlington) had a team-high 12 points, Dustin Kinn (New Riegel) added 10 points and Billy Taflinger grabbed seven rebounds and dished out six assists for Bluffton (8-15, 4-12).
BU women top Rose-Hulman
BLUFFTON — Kaitlyn Pennekamp led four Bluffton University scorers in double figures Saturday with 22 points to go with six steals as the Beavers dropped Rose-Hulman 71-61 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action at the Sommer Center.
Bluffton (13-10, 9-7 HCAC) outscored the Fighting Engineers 40-30 in the second half.
Brooke Ruffer tossed in 12 points and had four steals, Mikayla Coburn added 12 points, Taylor Knight contributed 11 points and five assists, and Belicia Copper grabbed 11 rebounds for the Beavers.
Sheree Williams finished with 13 points for Rose-Hulman (8-15, 6-10 HCAC).
