Division III wrestling: Windle first Ada wrestler to go to state

TROY — Austin Windle is the first.
Windle, a junior, put Friday’s quarterfinal loss behind him and wrestled his way through the consolation bracket to become Ada’s first OHSAA state wrestling qualifier on Saturday.
Windle won four straight matches to claim third place in the 160-pound class at the Division III district tournament at Hobart Arena.
Windle (39-6) beat Waynesville’s Tytus Collins (15-8) and pinned Wayne Trace’s Jacob Dingus (2:57) before winning his go-to-state match 9-2 against Coldwater’s Jake Collins. He finished with an 8-7 victory over Cincinnati Deer Park’s Kamran Alexander.
Teammate Jarrod Woodland (32-13) added a sixth-place finish at 195 pounds for the Bulldogs.
Dayton Christian won the team championship with 212½ points. Ada was the top area squad in 14th place with 35 points. Columbus Grove (8) was 40th and Bluffton (2) was 46th among 52 teams.
