The University of Findlay has three athletes with top-seeded marks heading into today’s Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference indoor track and field championships which begin Saturday at Hillsdale’s Margot V. Biermann Athletic Center.
Grand Valley State is the defending champion in both the men and women’s divisions. Findlay’s men’s team will be looking to improve upon last year’s fourth-place conference finish while the Oilers placed sixth in the women’s meet last season.
Look for a strong UF showing in the field events as freshman Alexander Zolotoglavyy is the top-seed in the men’s long jump (7.43 meters) while junior Justin Welch has the top mark in the men’s weight throw (22.0).
Teammate Demorrio Leggett is ranked second in the triple jump (15.05).
Leipsic graduate and UF junior Kendra Averesch is the top-ranked performer in the women’s shot put (15.86).
The Oilers’ 1,600 relay team of Maud Sanmiquel, Emily Caudill (Upper Sandusky), Pam Showman and Shelby Stump (Hardin Northern) is seeded second with a time of 3:51.39.
The meet begins today at 10 a.m. with the heptathlon. Running events begin at 3:50 p.m. with field events slated to start at 4 p.m.
The remainder of the field events will begin at 10 a.m. on Sunday with the running event finals set for 1:15 p.m.
